Description

The book covers different public health issues affecting Sub-Saharan Africa, from different perspectives. In doing so it discusses local economics, society, and politics, in addressing the problems of health infrastructure in the region. It also presents the impact of the colonial legacy in addressing contemporary problems in public health. It advocates for decolonisation of methodologies, and addresses local problems through sustainable Afrocentric strategies. It also delves into the place of HIV/AIDS and its subsequent impact on the sustainability of health infrastructure in sub-Saharan Africa.

Very little has been researched and published on public health issues in sub-Saharan Africa. Most of published work has tended to be in more easily accessible areas of the continent, leaving deprived communities out. This work will greatly benefit scholars and university students researching public health issues in sub-Saharan Africa; political leaders in Africa and elsewhere who make public health policies and decisions; and funding bodies, including NGOs, who work with the countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Editor(s):  Dr. Mathew Nyashanu, is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at Nottingham Trent University, UK. Dr Mandu Ekpenyong teaches and researches at Manchester Metropolitan University; and Dr Efrider Maramwidze, at Coventry University, UK.
