Description
Internal reviews of tangible or perceived deviant behavior within the contemporary business sphere typically involves expert individuals and teams drawn from the legal and financial services professions. These specialist fraud examiners conduct analytical reviews with a large degree of independence as financial detectives, in the private policing aspects of internal investigations within client organizations. Such reviews encompass undertaking forensic or factual evaluations of documents, interviews with whistleblowers and suspects, and other investigative steps.
Based on extensive primary research, this book explores and evaluates this developing global field, applying an offender-based perspective which seeks to inform, improve and develop policy and practice. Drawing on research from Europe, North America, Africa and Asia, the book presents empirical research findings supplemented by the detailed analysis of a large number of internal reviews produced by fraud examiners on completion of internal investigations. The research gathered considers offender motive, conformance, potential damage and recovery of the corporate social license, whilst critically assessing investigation effectiveness and review maturity. Using an interdisciplinary focus, Corporate Reviews of Internal Deviance presents a close analysis of the field to identify, position, and reveal the role of internal review and the impact of the social license on conceptions of white-collar deviance and crime.
