Description
Conflict, Migration, and Diaspora explores the experiences of South Sudanese refugees who have relocated to Australia due to the violence and instability in their homeland. This study examines the intersection of war, displacement, and identity, while highlighting the transnational connections and cultural resilience within the diaspora. Through detailed narratives, it sheds light on the complexities of belonging, displacement, and the challenges of navigating multiple national identities in a globalized world.
Important reading for scholars and students in the fields of Political Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, and Sociology, particularly those with an interest in conflict, forced migration, and diaspora studies. It will also be relevant to policymakers involved in refugee resettlement and integration, as well as NGOs and organizations working with displaced populations. Reviews
This book is both a question of topicality today which fits into the geo-political instability currently afflicting the world as well as a specific story of refugees from this conflict and their journey as new migrants to Australia. Sudanese refugees and their families are experiencing a difficult journey of integration into Australian society. Some including the new generation are experiencing acts of intolerance and even state harassment – especially the young male teenagers. The study presented by Dr. Leek besides being voluminous is also articulate for its revelations. It explores the cross section between war in the home country, displacement and eventually migration and settlement in a strange (white) country. The personal accounts are harrowing yet revealing in the personal journeys for those who have multiple national identities in a globalized world. This is an important read not only for those who might be related to this journey but to all who have some role in the migration-refugee process and wish to read and experience a different journey. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all."
