Description

In a world where air transport is as much a theatre of geopolitics as it is a conduit of commerce, Economics of Air Law: Intersections of Commerce, Policy, and the Governance of the Skies is an inquiry into the intersecting legal and economic tectonics of international civil aviation. This new book addresses the intricacies of market access, aviation-related goods, and environmental market-based measures, while confronting the impact of global tariffs.

This is a rigorous exposition of how law is made and applied, but also how it is lived, bent, and sometimes broken in the face of sovereign will, economic retaliation, and ideological divergence. The reader is guided through the labyrinth of bilateral aviation diplomacy under China’s Belt and Road Initiative; the existential frailty of open skies agreements in a fractured legal order; and the fragile optimism of climate governance under CORSIA and other market-based constructs.

International law—particularly in aviation—is no longer a monolith but a contested terrain of plural interpretations, political subtexts, and interpretive communities. It is a reference work for practitioners, policymakers, scholars, and students.
