Description
The environmental crisis facing humanity today is a complex issue with a multitude of causes. One critical, but not well-understood factor is the credit-debt-leverage regime that has financed energy-intensive production and consumption throughout much of the 20th century. This traditional mode of financing fails to offer the stability and sustainability needed to halt and reverse ecological degradation and transition to a low-carbon economy. Is there a better, more efficient financing system that aligns with the cooperative, empathic nature of human beings?
This book argues that an Islamic Finance approach may provide a better alternative. Environmental and ecosystem sustainability necessitates sustainable finance. The current risk-shifting economic model cannot provide the stable, sustainable financing required for a transition to a low-carbon, sustainable environment. In fact, this financing regime is a primary driver of ecological degradation.
The author advocates for moral behaviours governing a risk-sharing financial framework as a sustainable alternative, offering hope and practical solutions for a better future.
Islamic Finance has become an important study option in business and finance programs around the world, and this well-argued new book matches an Islamic Finance approach with the pressing need to address the climate and sustainability crisis.
