Description

Podcasts are a popular medium of entertainment. This book charts the course of a podcast born out of the necessity to keep in contact with fellow academics, that became a valuable source of up-to-date information from a broad range of academic fields.

The book follows the route of producing a podcast and using the results of the interviews through both standard descriptive statistics followed by qualitative analysis of what was said. The analysis brings to light links and narratives within various fields that could only have been noticed through consistent investigation. The book covers four years of hour-long interviews on subjects that have broadened the understanding of the interviewers and our listeners.

This is the first book of its kind to look at the activity of podcasting as a method of data collection and analysis. The key audience is people who are interested in alternative methods of data collection, in a time of near unlimited data without adequate scaffolding. Young researchers may listen to podcasts for entertainment but may not think of them as sources of valuable academic information. This book is intended to help readers understand methods that could help them bring information to the attention of others quickly yet accurately in a time of potential information overload.
