Description
Rethinking Travel and Tourism encapsulates the critical themes that highlight the continued growth of tourism. Although resilient, the sector has been much criticized for its impact on climate change, local communities and geopolitics, and is now leading to very significant negative effects on the lives of the host populations. The situation, if it continues unchecked, is likely to result in untenable conditions for the climate, societies, planning policies, and social policies, including holidays, by the end of the 2020s.
Therefore, there is a clear need to reassess tourism policies. There is a moral as well as practical and economic imperatives behind this rethinking, given the negative impacts on communities and the environment, and the need for a more sustainable and responsible approach to tourism's future. Tourism is a sector in full evolution that must adapt to these challenges through new policies guided by ethical considerations.
This thought-provoking book will be of interest to teachers and students in tourism, as well as professionals working in public local, regional, or national administrations and the private sector.
