Description
In an academic landscape often marked by disciplinary silos, social science theories can struggle for validation against the complexities of historical reality. This book proposes a new, cross-disciplinary methodology that rigorously integrates historiography with social science research. The author argues that a deeper understanding of societal dynamics, particularly instability, can only be achieved by systematically testing theoretical models against detailed historical case studies.
Through a series of case analyses—spanning the failed state of Lebanon, the dynamics of Al-Assad's Syria, the rise of ISIS, and the modern theocracy in Iran—the text demonstrates the practical application and power of this integrated approach. The study extends its scope to explore the historical roots of conflict in the fall of the Ottoman Empire and even examines the ripple effects of Middle Eastern instability on European politics, as seen in the case of Brexit. This work is an essential resource for scholars and students in political science, sociology, history, and Middle Eastern studies, offering a robust new framework for empirical research and a more nuanced understanding of contemporary global conflicts.
