Description
The field of corporate investigations is expanding globally, yet it is fraught with procedural and ethical challenges. This book provides a critical examination of the growing industry of private policing, where fraud examiners and corporate investigators navigate the complex terrain of internal reviews. Managing Corporate Investigations introduces a novel "examination maturity" model to assess the success or failure of investigative work. Through an in-depth analysis of eight high-profile international cases—including the Wirecard accounting scandal, money laundering at Swedbank and Danske Bank, and corruption at the International Biathlon Union—the author reveals the factors that distinguish effective investigations from those that escalate conflicts. The book tackles questions of due process, the burden of proof, and the quasi-judicial power wielded by investigators. It is essential reading for academic scholars in criminology, business, law, and management, as well as for professionals, regulators, and policymakers involved in corporate governance and fraud examination.
