Description
This is a book dedicated to underpinning ethics in cinema and society. It does this by articulating the fact that human choices as done by filmmakers and movie audiences constitute sites for deconstructing ethical issues in film matters. Alongside the actions of filmmakers and movie consumers are plotlines of narratives where the choices of characters are indices for navigating moral dilemmas too. The arguments for censorship in today’s digitally challenging world, where films are more than ever consumed via online platforms, is also explored. This book therefore fills a gap in underpinning ethical matters at different levels of film production and consumption practices, especially in examining African cinema, and Nollywood (Nigerian cinema) in particular.

Reviews
"This is an engaging read for a general audience and is particularly good in focusing on stereotyping of representations in African cinema, especially with regards to over-dependence on the West. There are some excellent readings of ‘Denying Hope’ (2023) and ‘Rattlesnake: The story of Ahanna’ (2020) and Nollywood cinema in general."
- Professor Emeritus Pat Brereton, Dublin City University, Ireland.
"Moral Dilemmas in Discourse of Cinema, Ethics & Society is a response to implausible questions that arise in various fora where debates or lectures on Nollywood movies, film industry and cinematic issues occur. Consequently, the 155-page book, in a deep thought-provoking manner interrogates ethical realities faced by the society nowadays with thorough filmic scholarship and research. The book with eleven chapters underscores how people appreciate storytelling, how every film is a story, how cinema and society can be interface, how ethical criticism is carried out in film, how filmmakers foreground the powers of movies in the society as education, information, entertainment, development of ideas, affirmation to cultural values, influence of screen character as personal hero, stereotypical impressions. It unveils the connections in cinema, ethics and society for quality assurance among others."
