Description

This book explores the bidirectional causal relationship between environmental sustainability and economic growth in countries at different developmental stages. Its comprehensive empirical analysis combines econometric modelling, comparative development perspectives and institutional factors to examine whether sustainability drives growth, or vice versa.

National characteristics such as income, pollution, resource consumption and depletion shape these dynamics. The book contributes to scholarly and policy debates on green growth, decoupling and the state’s role in sustainability transitions. Central to its contribution is a comparative framework for understanding the interplay between sustainability and growth, including moderating and mediating factors, enabling nuanced policy recommendations.

Written for researchers, postgraduate students, development professionals and policymakers, this work offers an empirically grounded and context-sensitive approach to the economics of sustainability, empowering readers to navigate global development challenges.
