Description

Communication for development constitutes an international field of theory and practice on the symbolic, relational, material and contextual dimensions of the very rich heritage of human communication. Its theories are based on an understanding, appropriation and use of various modes, genres and communication media for multidimensional and multiscale development with productive transformation, social inclusion, citizen participation, cultural diversity and environmental sustainability.

This is one of only a few books to present an intellectual study of communication for development based on reasoning, with two complementary directions. On the one hand, the book recognizes the diverse ideas about development and its diverse consequences in communication for development. On the other, links between the theories of communication for development and thinking about development and social change are explored. So, this book begins to cover this knowledge gap within the social sciences and humanities from the extensive experience of research, teaching and professional practice.

The book will be of interest to researchers, teachers and students of communication, and other social science specialists.
