Description

*Ecologies of Care* introduces a novel theory of healthcare as a 'system of systems', demonstrating how interventions at different levels continuously interact and shape one another. It offers a reinterpretation of patient-centred design, arguing that patient-centredness evolves with scale: from the patient's lived experience at the product level, to their role within socio-technical networks at the systemic level, and their part in broader ecological systems at the planetary level. Aiming to bridge theory and practice, the book grounds its framework in a detailed case study of a 'phygital' (physical/digital) medical device, critically reflects on it through interviews with leading academic and industry experts, and translates it into actionable educational methodologies. By connecting digital transformation, socio-technical ecosystems, and design, *Ecologies of Care* provides a guide for researchers, practitioners, and students in healthcare futures.
