Description

The human gut microbiome is a complex system containing bacteria, fungi, viruses, protists and archaea that has an enormous effect on our health. Most current healthy diets are based on considering food only with respect to fibres, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals and vitamins but not which foods contain the essential microbes for providing a healthy gut microbiome.

Here, we have to realize that nature works by the very same basic rules as our human body. Healthy food comes from healthy plants and healthy plants come from a healthy soil. Unfortunately, the massive use of herbicides, fungicides and pesticides in our food production system has drastic effects on the food microbiome. These chemicals have all antimicrobial activities and their continuous use has drastically deprived the food chain of many of the highly valued microbes that our healthy gut system relies on. This book argues for a change in food production and consumption, to enjoy a healthy life.
