Description

This book is a collection of essays, sermons, and reflections exploring Black life, faith, and liberation within Unitarian Universalism (UU). This book gathers powerful histories of Black clergy, lay leaders, artists, scholars, and culture-bearers, documenting the struggle and the beauty of creating a spiritual home in a tradition still learning how to hold Blackness fully.

The work centers three interconnected themes. Belonging examines how Black people find, shape, and challenge UU spaces, tracing stories of inheritance, rupture, and community-building. Theology turns to Black expressive culture, such as music, memory, and the everyday sacred as a wellspring for UU theological imagination, offering a spirituality rooted in joy, resilience, and embodied wisdom. Prophetic Witness gathers justice-oriented sermons and public reflections that cast a bold vision for what a truly liberatory UU future requires.
